BRIEFLY: “We can no longer step lightly around this shame”

Desmond Tutu and Dennis Van Roekel (president of the U.S. National Education Association) added their voices this week to the calls for a concerted global push to meet the Education for All goals by 2015, in an opinion article in The Huffington Post. They called on the U.S. Congress to support Congresswoman Nita Lowey’s Education for All Act, launched on Wednesday in Washington, which would provide for the creation of a Global Fund for Education, a goal that President Barack Obama supported as a presidential candidate. “It is our moral obligation to give every child the very best education possible,” they write. “We must be willing to do more than talk and put universal education on the fast track.”
