Letter to the 7 billionth human being

Français | Español

Welcome!

It might be scary to know that you’re sharing the planet with so many people!  But it will be OK. You want to know what will make all the difference? Education. Here is an A-B-C to get you started.

You need to get an early start with health, food and love, right from the beginning. And don’t start school late. The better your start in life, the more likely you are to succeed when you grow up.

Focus on the basics first. Learn how to read and write, to count and multiply. These foundations will stay with you for your whole life. They will let you continue to learn and get the skills you need for a good job.

Everyone should be able to go to school, but unfortunately 67 million kids do not. Let’s hope you don’t become one of them. Education should be for all, no matter who they are and where they live.

6.999.999.999 + 1

You are one of many on this planet, but you’re important. You are born with fundamental human rights, including the right to education. You must demand that right, and make adults listen to your demand.

Best wishes

  3. Hi, I would first like to say that your letter to this 7th billionth human is very sweet and thoughtful, I’m sure he/she will be very happy to read it because I sure did.
I very much agree with you when you said that everyone in this world has equal rights to education. However it is shocking to hear that only so little of us has the access to it. I think education is extremely crucial for anyone and let’s just hope that this new member to our global community will be one of the fortunate ones that can receive education.
    With regards,
    Year 10b Gp Class

  8. Dear the 7 billionth human being,

To bring out my point of view, I would first like to say that education is very important among everyone in the world. Education teaches you the basic information and theory in your daily life. The greater the quality of education, the better and sensible of choices that you will make in your life. Education is a part of our learning process, it helps you to make decision and choices that we have to make in our life or career. Also better quality of education symboled the better career or future that you will have. I truly wish that you will have a wonderful life and have an opportunity to have education for your far beyond future and demand for the ones that don’t have the opportunity to access education because education is free for all.

  9. After reading these, i started to realize more clearly what is education and how its work. Since i was still a child, i went to school because my parents ask me to. I totally forgot education is how useful and help of my life. I just listen what my parents order. I used to hate going to school, studying. However, by the time i grow up, i found out that education is not that make me refuse . Is good to know more things, education can also make your life colorful. You have knowledge, then you will see how amazing the world is.Some of the people how have chance to study, don’t waste it! Don’t make yourself regret.

  10. Hi, I would like to say that this letter is very well written, simple but true. Yes, education is for everyone, its a right that each of us deserves, it is sad and shocking to know that 67 million kids dont have a chance of being educated. This will become a reminder for me of how fortunate I am.

  11. This was a very informational message; true education is something that i take for granted. (Since, I live in Hong Kong, education is compulsory. ) However, I’ve never truly noticed the number of children without the chance to educate.
My education started since i was born from recognizing colours to saying my parents names and eventually learning about rocket science… not literally but … Without education my whole life would have been different. I wouldn’t be sitting here posting a comment to this post.
Everyone is born important, I am fortunate to have all these chances and goods. And since everyone is important i think everyone should have the chance to get proper education.
I would love to help others by commanding these rights to people that might be able to help, yes, of course that includes myself, my parents, my friends and anyone else that might be able to help.

  12. From this blog entry I felt again how important education is to everyone. I agree that education at an early age is very important because all the skills you learn there will stay with you and help you throughout the whole life. Also, educated parents are more likely to send their children to school, so a “chain” of education can be made. By the way, new born babies cannot read but I guess you are writing to him/her hoping that she will be educated and can read your letter in the future.

  13. I feel how important education after knowing that, if you don’t get educated you might live in an very bad environment and in poverty. I think education would be one of the sources to learn skills and other great stuff. when i was 9 or 10 i used to think that learning is boring and stupid but because I started to understand why we need be educated is because I had notice why we need to learn, by then i realised why education is that important. What I’m trying to say is that you need to keep healthy, love others so they love you, and learn as much as you can, if you keep thinking education is fun then it will be fun.

  14. Dear the 7 billionth person in the world,
I know its very scary to know that you’re sharing the planet with so many people, but don’t worry, everything will be fine. I hope you will be able to live happy everyday and be thankful for all the things that you have it now. 67 million people don’t have a chance to go to school, but you’re very lucky to have this opportunity to know the importance of education. 16. this is a great blog, i like how you have clearly pointed out about how education should be started from an early age, for everyone, and how you’ve agreed that the foundations will stay with us forever – the basics. Although it’s quite depressing to know that there are 67 million kids do not get education, and i’m pretty sure from what you have written, we the readers are aware of that, and would proudly help to spread the words for other people to be notified, and to help in finding a way to solve this serious issue.

  17. after reading this, i realized that education is really important for people and its very true that you should start early because that’s what happened to me. When i was young i didn’t realize how much education is important to us and i didn’t really pay attention when it came to some subject like Chinese and i am struggling to catch up now so what you say is really true. It is really sad to know that 67million people do not have education in this world, your article taught me that i am very lucky that im not in one of the 67million people that do not have education and that i should treasure that and work hard.
